Travel Masada: An archaeological site with thrilling story

In Israel among the most frequently toured places and most exciting places Masada is the top which related with the story of faith, surrender, tragic end, ambitions, power and perseverance. With flaming arrows and rocks as well as human spirit of the battles where battles were waged Masada is the place.

With steep sides and like a parapet on a flat on the top of the mountain Masada is situated overlooking to the west the vast panorama and to the east the Dead Sea. In the year 68 B.C against Rome at the beginning of the great revolt, by a group of Jewish zealots the site was conquered, and their last stronghold became the Masada. The Romans besieged the Masada in the year 72 B.C. and on its western side a huge earthen ramp after constructing in reaching the steep fortress the Romans were succeeded. At the top of the Masada in the year 73 was living 960 Jewish zealots, into the hands of the Romans rather than to fall alive they chose to commit suicide. As a saga of martyrdom, heroism and courage a saga left behind by their deeds.

The condition of the fortress of Masada are remains well preserved and to its heroic inhabitants and to the site to pay homage in an effort the site have been reconstructed. King Herod’s northern palace is the most impressive structure on the Masada, overlooking to below gorge it was built on the three terraces. With walls which are decorated with murals and with colorful mosaic a large Roman style bath house is located near the palace. There are many building in this site which related to its history such as the mikveh (Jewish ritual bath), watchtowers, synagogue, and storerooms and of course the luxurious western palace, with the artifacts when viewed especially like as the coins, scrolls, containers and decorated pottery.

By the Italian experts for years to come to preserve the beautiful murals and embossments on Masada on the walls of the buildings what were discovered were restored. Still today among the remains siege camp of the Roman the most complete and largest is the Masada. This place is located in an extremely high place, by the winding ‘snake path’ on foot can be ascendant or from the tourist center which located at the feet of Masada by a cable car visitors can reach at the top. About the thrilling story of the site also features a movie the tourist center, for the archaeological findings an exhibit and a model of Masada.
