Maui: The beautiful Hawaiian Island

About Maui, Hawaii, USA:
Among the islands of Hawaii the Maui is the second largest island which area covers 727.2 square miles (1,883 square kilometers) and in the United States is the 17th largest island. For the Hawaii State Maui is a part, among the Maui count’s four islands is the largest. Maui is bigger than the unpopulated Kahoolawe, Lanai and Molokai. Maui had the population of 144,444 in 2010, in the Hawaiian Islands which is the third highest, behind the Hawaii and Oahu Island.


Tourism in Maui:
Lahaina, Iao Valley, Haleakala national park and Hana Highway are the big tourist spot in the Maui. Along the east coast of Maui the Hana Highway runs, around the mountains curving and passing by the waterfalls and black sand beaches. Haleakala which is a dormant volcano, for it the Haleakala National park is the home. With an entire street of restaurants and shops on the island Lahaina is one of the main attractions, to a wharf which lead for a sunset cruise from where many set out. Along the Maui coast at almost any beach can be done snorkeling. On Maui are also popular the windsurfing and surfing.


West Maui which includes Kapalua, Kahana, Napili, Lahaina, Kaanapali and Napili Honokowai, and South Maui which includes Wailea Makena, Kihei are the main tourist areas. In Kahului is located the main port of call for cruise ships. Located at the Lahaina Harbor (in Lahaina) and in Maalaea Harbor (between Lahaina and Kihei is located) there are also smaller ports.


In 2004 Maui county welcome about 2,207,826 tourist which rises in 2007 to 2,639,929, for the Island of Maui alone tourist expenditures was US$3.5 billion. While with the Japanese tourist the Island of Oahu is most popular, mostly from the Canada and the US mainland the Island of Maui appeals the visitors. On the island there were 2,003,492 domestic arrivals and 260,184 international arrivals in 2005.


Sports in Maui:

Snorkeling
On Maui one of the most popular activities is the Snorkeling. All around the island to snorkel there are over 30 beaches and bays.


Windsurfing
For the windsurfing Maui is a well-known place. A very well-known windsurfing spot is the Kanaha Beach Park and paddle boarders or the surfers may have stand-up, if there are no wind but waves. Since the early 1980s on Maui windsurfing has evolved when to publicize the sport and to test the equipment as an ideal location Maui was recognized.


Surfing 
In Hawaii surfing is one of the most popular sports. For the surfing and windsurfing the Hookipa Beach Park in Maui is well-known. There are famous surfing areas in Maui which includes Fleming Beach, Peahi, Honolua Bay and the Slaughterhouse Beach. During the winter season absorbs the most swell the north side of Maui and in the summer time the west side. Due to the blocking island to be weak and rare the summer south swells tend.


Kiteboarding and Kitesurfing in Maui
In the Maui kiteboarding/kitesurfing is one of the newest sport. Beginners, intermediate and advanced kiters gather together in the Kanaha Beach Park. As the Kite Beach it is known.


How to get in Maui:
Hana Airport in the eastern Maui, Kapalua Airport in the western Maui and Kahului Airport in the central Maui these three airports provide air services to the Maui. There are public buses in Maui and per boarding with a fare cost of $2 around the island provides the transportation which is a Maui county funded program.
