The Sundarbans: The largest mangrove forest of the world and the home of Royal Bengal Tigers (Part – 2)

By asad russel –

From Khulna (Bangladesh) boat tour -  On a day trip is a great taste of the mangroves dipping into the mangrove forests, but the thrill of an adventure and the serenity of the Sundarbans for truly experience on a three or four day boat trip into the swamps you need to delve. From the Bangladesh town Khulna this is best done. Onboard your main tour boat you can eat and sleep but into smaller groups to break out you will also get the chance and track the tiger, accompanied by the armed forest guard either on the foot or along the narrow river channels on the smaller boats. As far as Kotka most trips travel to south,, on the Bay of Bengal a deserted mangrove beach, back to Khulna before working their way slowly. Of course very slim are your chances of spotting a Royal Bengal Tiger but you can see likely the wild boar, monkeys, a huge variety of birdlife, reptiles and spotted  deer.

The trail of honey harvest (Bangladesh) – On foot throughout the forest allows you to trek this offbeat Sundarbans adventures, known as the maualis following the local workers, produced by the formidable honeybees of this region as they go deep in the forest in search of the honey. For two months the honey harvesting season lasts, but a couple of trips in total the tour operators tend to organize only, and at the start of April normally only.

Tours from the Kolkata (India) – From Kolkata to explore the Indian side of the Sundarbans it’s also possible, to the multi-day trips on similar trips which leaves from the Bangladesh town Khulna. Here also possible the day trip, but tiring and so long, so you can take a tour of overnight, onboard your tour boat either sleeping or on dry land accommodation in safari lodge.

When to go in Sundarbans:
For exploring the Sundarbans are most comfortable are the cooler winter months from October to February. The temperatures between the 15 to 25 degrees Celsius expect very little rain. Brings greener than green scenery the summer rains from June to August, but the travel plans can disrupt by the flooding. Only in the April are available the honey harvest trips.

Some tips for the visitors:
From Khulna for multi-day trips, at least two or three weeks in advance try to make a booking. Even if you can’t book in online (for example, The Guide Tours, through wire transfer allows the visitors to book from home, but its own online booking system doesn’t have it), at least to reserve a place on a trip you should be able, once you arrive in Dhaka which you can then confirm.

From Khulna on taking on of the multi-day trips if you are planning, onto one of your tour operators smaller boats consider booking yourself. As many as 50 people can carry the larger boats, so pretty rowdy that’s can get.
