What to see at the Charleston:
● The Charles Towne Landing State Historic Site – It is located of the Ashley River on the west bank off the US 171, from the downtown it is almost 3 miles northwest.
● The Patriots Point Naval & Maritime Museum – In the Mt. Pleasant alongside of the Ravenel bridge it is located, for the warfare an amazing collection and display shows this part of Charleston which includes the destroyer USCG Ingham, the USS Laffey, the aircraft carrier USS Yorktown and the submarine USS Clagamore. There are also a camp of Vietnam era which reconstructed and an aircraft.
● The College of Charleston – In 1770 the College of Charleston was established, in this state of South Carolina it is the oldest higher education institution and among the other oldest college of United States it is the thirteenth.
● The Citadel – In 1842 the Citadel was founded which is a historic college of the military. To the public while school are open and the school is in the session generally every week in Friday afternoon occur the parades of full dress. For the visitors typically open this school campus and which located in the Bond Hall by the Admissions Office stopping and the school by calling can be arranged the tours.
● The Longitude Lane – On a longitude line was built the colonial cobblestone lane in the E Bay St.
● The Randolph Hall – At the College of Charleston the Randolph Hall is located and in 1828 it was built. It is a famous site of movie making of Civil War.
● The Gibbes Museum of Art – Of fine arts about 10,000 works collection houses the Gibbes Museum since 1905, with the connection of Southern or Charleston this collection basically the American works.
● The Fort Moultrie – On the neighboring Sullivan Island Fort Moultrie is the fort of Revolutionary and Civil War.
● The Water Park – Along with the Cooper River in south from the Vendue Range to Water St. the Waterfront Park is located. The views of the terminal of cruise ship offers the wharf of the Vendue Range and as well as the views of Ravenel Bridge.
● The Arthur Ravenel Bridge – Over the Cooper River in 2005 was completed the Arthur Ravenel Bridge, in North America which is the longest cable stay bridge.
● The Liberty Square – By the Cooper River fronting of Calhoun St. at the east end the Liberty Square is located. In this square houses the Fort Sumter National Monument Visitor Center and the South Carolina Aquarium.
● The Fireproof Building – in 1827 was constructed this historical national monument at the 100 Meeting Street and in the United States for the fireproof construction as the oldest building this is believed. This amazing piece of architecture was the work of Robert Mills, as an architect to be trained who was the first native American. He was the local man of Charleston and like the Benjamin Latrobe and Thomas Jefferson which are considered as the early important architecture of America he work with those projects. For the Washington Monument as well as many other public building Mills was responsible. In a Greek Doric style which is simple by the solid masonry primarily consists the building. Lit by the cupola a staircase of cantilevered stone contains an oval hall. For the South Carolina Historic Society as the headquarters serves this building. In 1856 was founded the South Carolina Historic Society which is a non-profit private organization.
