Santorini Island: The stunning pre-volcanic island (Part – 1)

About the Santorini Island, Greece:
In the Cyclades group of the Greek island the Santorini Island is a volcanic island. Between the Anafi and Ios islands it is located. From the Oia town the stunning sunset, for dramatic the views, the white aubergine (the eggplant) which is strange, the Thira which is its town, and its own volcano what is naturally very active. Like the beach of Perissa there are fantastic natural beaches, in Santorini Island the beach of Perissa may be the best beach, there are also the Kamari the black pebble beach, red beach and white beach.

Villages and towns in the Santorini Island:
On the Santorini Island there are several towns and villages, of the caldera of the crescent shaped cliff along the top are perched four of them. Here is the list of Santorini Island villages and towns –
● The Fira –
The main cliff-perched town which is stunning, Oia has all that featuring but overcrowded much more.
● The Karterados –
From the south of Fira about 2 kilometers. The traditional Santorini architecture here you can see.
● The Firostefani –
From the Fira walking distance is just 10 minutes, of the volcano the unique view and from the cliff-perched site of the sunset offering it.

● The Kamari –
The Kamari is the black pebble beach.
● The Oia or the Ia –
On the Santorini Island the most charming place of cliff-perched and probably unforgettable for the amazing sunsets.
● The Imerovigli –
Away from the Fira a short bus ride perched on the cliff a small resort town. Down to the horizon all the way of sunset and of Oia absolutely has stunning views.
● The Perissa –
The Perissa is the well organized and nice beach and for the Greek fish taverns is famed.

● The Pyrgos –
On the Santorini Island Pyrgos is the highest point. With Oia this place can compete with the picturesque streets and monastery.
● The Akrotiri –
With stunning history the Akrotiri is an archaeological site.
● The Megalochori –
With lot of white Cycladic churches which are old the Megalochori is a traditional village.
● The Monolithos –
Here as the water is shallow this place is very good for the children, there are a few good taverns and the nice beach.

● The Mesaria –
For the Santorini Island the Mesaria is the center. With fresh fish every morning on the road there is a small market. Fully rebuilt to see a 19th century house the Argiros Estate you shouldn’t miss.
● The Vothonas –
The Vothonas is a rock village and small in size, the St. Ann church is situated here. On the Santorini Island it is the strangest village architecturally, from the ravine which it is in were cut as all the buildings.
● The Vlichada –
With a beach the Vlichada is a small village.

The facts of the Santorini Island:

Thira is the alternative name for Santorini. Surrounding Thira for the family of islands Santorini is also a name, in approximately 1628 BCE prior to a major volcanic event once forming a single island.

The rich variety of villages and landscapes the small island cradles. From the 1956 earthquake containing a mixture of ruins in the small village of Mesa Gonia visit traditional architecture and at the foot of the settlement winery as well as the restored villas. With the grand old houses another notable village is the Pyrgos, there are several Byzantine churches and of a Venetian castle the remains.

One natural source of fresh water has the Santorini Island, between the entrance of the ancient Thira and Kamari halfway up the steep footpath located behind a small chapel in a cave situated a small spring. A small quantity it only provides, of the pre-volcanic island from the only remaining limestone outcrop as it comes it is of good quality. From the Crete via tanker to be delivered to the island for water it was necessary prior to the early 1990’s. However, by a local desalination plant to water provided now have access most hotels and homes now. Still it is rather salty while is potable this water, so while visiting the Santorini Island drinks bottled water most everyone.
